Welcome

The objective of the Coalition is the establishment of an International Court of the Environment ("ICE"). The aim of the ICE would be the promotion, development, determination and enforcement of environmental law at the international level.

At its heart, the campaign to establish the ICE is based on the recognition that the principal causes and effects of the world’s major environmental problems are international in nature and so require solutions which are also international.

The Coalition for the ICE has an illustrious predecessor. In 1995, the Coalition for the International Criminal Court was established. Only 3 years later, in July 1998, at a UN General Assembly in Rome, the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court was signed. As of March 2009, 108 countries have joined the International Criminal Court.
